Kill 'em All

This was the first album released after kicking Dave Mustaine out of the band. This album was released on July 29, 1983. The album was a little more than 51 minutes but contained 10 amazing and powerful songs the metal world had ever seen. The initial publication only made 1500 copies of the album, but to many people’s surprise the album soared to selling over 3 million copies in the United States alone. This one step opened the door for hundreds of other bands like Slayer, Anthrax, and Megadeth.

The Birth of Megadeth

Shortly after being kicked out of Metallica, Dave Mustaine went back to Los Angeles to get back on his feet and to find a way to get back at Metallica for abandoning him. The first aspects of Megadeth began to form when Dave met his soon to be bass player David Ellefson, who was living in the same apartment complex as Dave. David first met Dave while practicing his bass and after a few beers they decided to form a band. They had auditions for the remaining spots. Greg Handevidt and Dijon Carruthers, two jazz musicians, filled the rolls of secondary guitar and drummer. No vocalist was found so Dave decided to fill the roll himself. The band name Megadeth came from the actual word megadeath which is a term for one million deaths; Dave thought it sounded cool so it stuck.

A Little History Lesson

The first of the two bands to be crated was Metallica. They were formed in 1981, in the city of Los Angeles. The band had four main members: James Hetfield- Rhythm Guitar/ Lyrics, Dave Mustaine- Lead Guitar, Lars Ulrich- Drums, and Cliff Burton- Bass (Cliff wasn’t with the band in the very beginning but was the first basses to earn the spot.) This small but powerful underground band hit L.A. by storm. Their first demo track was releaced in 1982 and was titled No Life ‘til Leather. This demo tape surged through the underground music world. By the time Metallica got their first record deal in 1983 their were more over five times as many copies of the demo tape than there were of actual hard copies. Shortly after flying to New York to start recording their first album Metallica kicked lead guitarist Dave Mustaine out of the band due to poor behavior (In other words Dave was an out of control alcoholic and had excessive violent behaviors). Dave was replaced with the current lead guitarist Kirk Hammett. This separation unknowingly sparked the biggest rivalry the upcoming Metal world will ever see.

Megadeth verses Metallica

For over two decades Megadeth and Metallica have been intense rivals in the world of metal. These two gargantuan bands have grossed millions of dollars and have sold out entire stadiums to proud and loyal fans. With both bands pumping out massive fan bases the final question remains… which band is better Megadeth or Metallica?
